The Seasons of Life
By Kaylon D. Jenkins

Discontentment with God’s season for our lives is a major factor in why we make
unwise choices that lead to a life filled with regret.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-9; 1 Corinthians 13:11
Just as God has set the coarse of the earth in seasons (Genesis 8:22) so has he measured out our lives – in seasons. If the Lord wills, we are born into infancy, enter into childhood, mature into adulthood, gracefully grow to a ripe old-age, and eventually pass from this life into eternity. God has a wonderful plan for each area and phase of our lives in which He desires to use us for His glory as He reveals more of Himself to us. The aim of this study is to encourage each of us to seek God as to where we are in life according to His timetable and to line up with His will for whatever season of life that we are in.

Note: Discontentment with God’s season for our lives is a major factor in why we make
unwise choices that lead to a life filled with regret.

Principals that govern the seasons of life

  • You cannot avoid, skip, or detour from a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
  • You cannot return to a season that has past (Ecclesiastes 12:1-8).
  • What is sown in one season of life is reaped in another (Ecclesiastes 3:2; Galatians 6:7)
  • Life itself is a season of preparation for eternity (Hebrews 9:27).

Questions for discussion:

  1. How can understanding the aforementioned principals affect our choices in life?
  2. What are the primary roles and responsibilities of each of the various stages of life; childhood/youth, adulthood, single, married/parents, elderly?
  3. Can you see in your own life how not being content with a season of life has caused you some regret?
  4. How can we convey these truths to our children/the younger generation?

In conclusion, understanding the seasons of life can be the difference between eating the fruit of joy and peace or eating the bitter fruit of regret.
